Call (941) 299-0701 today to set up a consultation, or contact us online to learn more.

When we first meet with you, we take time to walk through how a case moves from arrest to first appearance at the Manatee County jail to arraignment, motion hearings, and, if necessary, trial in the Manatee County courts. By explaining this timeline step by step and identifying decision points along the way, we help you understand what to expect and how each choice may affect your record, employment, and family. We also discuss potential diversion programs, opportunities to address substance use issues, and ways to protect your driver’s license when charges involve DUI or other traffic-related offenses so that you can make informed decisions at every stage.

Because no two cases are alike, we also review the specific facts of your arrest, including where the stop occurred, which agency investigated the incident, and whether there were any body camera or dash camera recordings. This local context matters in Manatee County, where different law enforcement agencies may follow different protocols and where experience with individual officers, investigators, or court divisions can influence how we prepare your defense. By combining this detailed case review with our knowledge of local practices, we are able to identify issues that might not be obvious from the police report alone and build a more focused and effective defense strategy on your behalf.

Five-Star Reviews from Clients Like You

    "HOME RUN!!"
Mr. McIntosh is the best lawyer in Sarasota. I really got myself into serious trouble getting my 4th. DUI. I was referred to Brett by a close friend that I truly trust. I met with him and he was straight to the point. Letting me know just how serious a 4th DUI is. Any DUI is serious, but the 4th. one...I'm going to jail. Brett had a plan in mind from the get go, and the plan worked. He not only kept me from going to jail for a long time, but got me sentenced into a one year program built around helping me with my drinking issue. His work ethic, attention to detail, and overall legal abilities are outstanding. If you are looking to retain one of the best attorneys in the Sarasota area, I highly recommend McIntosh Law. Thanks Brett!!

Mr. Brett McIntosh knew exactly what he needed to do in order for justice to prevail in my case. I'm convinced he absolutely had a game plan right out the gate to prove my innocence and restore my name. He answered all my questions promptly and honestly and knew exactly what needed to be done to have my false charges against me dismissed. Mr. McIntosh gave me my life back and I would give him 10 stars on here if I could. I'm 100% convinced he would make sure that the legal system is fair and that none of his clients would be taken advantage of by the legal system or false accusations. His incredible amount of experience (28 years) and knowledge of the law is second to none. Thank you SIR for giving me my life back. Don't take a chance and hire the absolute best....Mr. Brett Donald McIntosh.

    "The man"
Bret is the best attorney for criminal defense in manatee and sarasota counties. I was wrongfully accused and Bret took the challenge to go up against a police dept. Bret was more than fair when it came to price. Bret treated me like a friend, he took his time learning about the case from both sides. He also seemed to enjoy going to trial and standing up for what was right and THAT is why he is the best. He's passionate about righting the wrong. Not matter how big or small your case is, Mr. Mcintosh will approched it with confidence and certain type of "swag" that everyone in the room respects.

Very thorough thru my whole case. He advised me on what I should do to be proactive in my case and I did most of what I could and he made it happen. The unbelievable happen. I have been to prison 3 times, latest not too long ago. He not only got prison off the table but got me a downward departure and kept me at home with my family. I highly recommend using him in any criminal case you may find yourself in.

    "MERRIT"
Brett McIntosh was referred to me by another excellent attorney who helped me Charlotte County, FL's blood sucking judicial process. I found the best attorney in SW FL when I met Brett McIntosh to help a friend with a problem Brett resolved easily. The deal is over but I told my friend I'm very confident Brett McIntosh will always be successful.

    "Amazing lawyer!"
I unfortunately got myself into a second DUI situation that was possibly winnable, and Brett pushed it as far as he could take it, even informing me of how the police officer was going to testify to give me a chance to accept a plea agreement (which i did) . Let me remind you I could've taken this to court with a chance to win, but it would have been my word against the police officers, a risk i didn't want to take. With the plea agreement and in front of the Judge, Brett made me look great making great and valid points for the Judge to accept his offer over the states with certain stipulatioins, i'm not going into specifics but alot of people don't get half a good of deal on their first DUI. Brett was very thorough, he did a great job and well respected in the court room. He comes highly recommended by me, just hope I don't require his expertise again.

    "Criminal Felony charges"
Mr. McIntosh did not set me up for failure. He did not sugar coat my charge or lie to me at any point, he was straight forward and up front about everything. He is as I was told an Attorney that State Prosecutors want to avoid at all costs due to his immense experience, his court procedure and the fight he goes out of his way to defend his clients. Mr. McIntosh is that and much more if you find yourself looking at the wrong side of the law for any reason I urge you to contact him without any doubt what so ever. He had my case dismissed without me even having to go to court once. I spent 20 years in the Military and I'm telling my fellow Brothers and Sisters here to find Brett if you have legal issues. He is not a Blue Falcon he will not give in to the Prosecutors to spare some hard work. Thank you Mr. McIntosh David King. DUSTOFF

Local Expertise & Regional Knowledge

As a prominent criminal defense lawyer in Manatee County, our familiarity with the region’s legal landscape, including local statutes such as those enforcing DUI penalties under Florida law, is instrumental in serving you effectively. We leverage our consistent interactions with local courts, law enforcement, and agencies to arm you with informed and tactical legal defense.

Manatee County's community policing practices and law enforcement methodologies are key considerations in defense planning. Understanding potential procedural oversights or biases enables our team to craft defenses that address these challenges directly. Our working relationships with legal authorities can also support efforts to negotiate plea bargains or alternative sentences when appropriate.

When you work with us, we explain how cases are typically handled in the criminal divisions of the Manatee County courts and what that means for your specific charges. Procedures in Bradenton may feel very different from proceedings in neighboring counties, and knowing how local judges tend to approach bond hearings, probation violations, or sentencing can influence which motions we file and when. By grounding our advice in how things actually work in Manatee County, rather than in theory alone, we help you avoid surprises and prepare for key hearings with confidence.

Local knowledge also plays a role in gathering evidence and working with potential witnesses. Many criminal cases arise from incidents on well‑traveled roads, in particular neighborhoods, or at local businesses, and our familiarity with these areas helps us ask more precise questions and locate surveillance footage or witnesses quickly. By combining this on‑the‑ground perspective with a detailed review of police procedures, we are able to identify weaknesses in the prosecution’s case that someone unfamiliar with Manatee County might overlook.

Comprehensive & Compassionate Client Support

McIntosh Law prioritizes client accessibility through flexible arrangements, including night and weekend consultations, virtual meetings, and bilingual services. We work to ensure language does not stand in the way of receiving strong criminal defense representation. Throughout the legal journey, we maintain transparent and frequent communication to help alleviate your concerns and empower you with knowledge about your case's progression.

We dedicate the necessary time to fully understand your unique circumstances, acknowledging the stress that legal proceedings impose and providing relief through steadfast support. Our client-focused approach is grounded in reliability and compassion, reinforcing our commitment to serve as both your legal advocate and ally during this challenging time.

From the first phone call, we focus on practical concerns that matter to you and your family, such as how an arrest could affect your job, professional license, or immigration status. We discuss what information you should gather, what to avoid posting on social media, and how to handle contact from law enforcement or alleged victims while your case is pending. By addressing these everyday issues in addition to the courtroom strategy, we help you protect yourself on multiple fronts and reduce the sense of uncertainty that often follows a criminal accusation.

Our team also understands that criminal charges can strain finances, transportation, and schedules, especially when court dates are set with little notice. We work with you to plan around hearings in the Manatee County courts, coordinate with bondsmen when appropriate, and provide reminders and updates so you are never left wondering about the status of your case. By being accessible, responsive, and organized, we give you a stable point of contact during a time that can otherwise feel overwhelming.

How Our Manatee County Criminal Defense Process Works

When you are deciding which criminal defense attorney in Manatee County to call, it helps to understand what working with our firm actually looks like from the first day of representation through the final resolution. We follow a structured process that keeps you informed while allowing our team to focus on building the strongest possible defense. Knowing this roadmap ahead of time can ease some of the anxiety that naturally comes with a criminal charge.

After your initial consultation, we gather all available documents, including police reports, charging paperwork, and any materials you already have, such as screenshots or names of potential witnesses. We then request discovery from the prosecutor and begin an independent review of the evidence rather than relying solely on the State’s characterization of events. During this phase, our attorneys and paralegals confer as a group to identify legal issues, factual disputes, and opportunities for early negotiation or dismissal, drawing on our experience in Manatee County courtrooms.

Once we have a clear picture of the case, we meet with you to discuss options that may range from filing motions to suppress evidence, to pursuing diversion opportunities, to preparing for trial. At each step, we explain the likely timelines in the local courts, how different judges and prosecutors may approach the issues, and what risks and benefits come with each choice. By treating you as an active participant in the strategy rather than a bystander, we help you make decisions that align with your goals and the realities of the Manatee County justice system.

Risks Of Facing Charges Without A Dedicated Defense Team

Many people underestimate how complex a criminal case can become once it moves beyond the initial arrest, particularly in a busy jurisdiction like Manatee County. Without a dedicated defense team reviewing every stage, important deadlines can be missed, and opportunities for reduced charges or alternative resolutions may never be explored. Understanding these risks can help you decide how quickly to involve a criminal attorney Manatee County residents can turn to for guidance.

Unrepresented or underrepresented defendants may feel pressure to make quick decisions at arraignment or early court dates, sometimes agreeing to plea offers before all the evidence has been disclosed. In Manatee County, where calendars can be crowded and hearings move quickly, it is easy to feel rushed. Having multiple professionals focused on your case allows us to slow the process down where appropriate, insist on complete discovery, and evaluate whether there are legal grounds to challenge the stop, search, or statements attributed to you before any permanent decisions are made.

Another risk of proceeding without a strong defense team is overlooking long‑term consequences that extend beyond the immediate sentence. A conviction can affect employment, housing, professional licensing, and immigration status, and certain offenses may carry mandatory driver’s license suspensions or registration requirements under Florida law. By examining these collateral issues from the outset and drawing on our experience defending people in local courts, we can help you pursue resolutions that take into account not just the next few months, but the years ahead.

Serving Clients Throughout Manatee County

Our practice is focused on representing individuals charged with crimes throughout Manatee County, from coastal communities to inland neighborhoods and the city of Bradenton. Because we appear regularly in the local courts, we are familiar with how cases originating in different parts of the county may be handled and how various law enforcement agencies prepare their reports. This county‑wide perspective allows us to recognize patterns and issues that might be missed by someone who does not routinely practice here.

We represent clients facing accusations that arise on major roadways, in residential areas, and in commercial districts, and we understand the unique concerns that can come with each setting. For example, a DUI stop that occurs after a sporting event may involve different witnesses and types of evidence than an allegation that begins with a call from neighbors in an apartment complex. By tailoring our approach to the specific circumstances of your arrest and the part of Manatee County where it occurred, we work to address the practical realities of your situation as well as the legal charges.

Because travel and work obligations can make repeated trips to a lawyer’s office difficult, we combine in‑person meetings with phone and virtual conferences so that people from all areas of Manatee County can access our defense services. We coordinate our schedules around court dates, employment, and family responsibilities, aiming to make it as manageable as possible for you to stay engaged in your defense while continuing to live your life. This flexible but focused approach is part of what leads many clients to view us as one of the best criminal defense attorney options Manatee County has to offer for their particular circumstances.

Take the Next Step: Secure Your Defense Today
